Roosevelt High School

Roosevelt High School is a part of the Portland Interscholastic League (PIL). The PIL is a vibrant, urban-based conference with a wide range of field types and conditions. The league includes Grant, Cleveland, Ida B. Wells, Lincoln, McDaniel, Roosevelt, Jefferson, and Franklin. It is known for both historic rivalries and diverse field challenges—often dictated by space, infrastructure, and neighborhood layout.

Field Location: 6941 N Central St, Portland, OR 97203

Left Field 294 ft.

Right Field 300 ft.

Center Field 300 ft.

Backstop 16 ft.

Strategy: Chaos Potential

  • Extreme short field—fly balls = danger; outfielders must play shallow and read fast.
  • Infielders must be precise—no room for error with short backstop.
  • Catchers must be ready to block everything—there’s no space behind.
  • Pitchers must disrupt timing with offspeed and elevation; fly balls carry.

Offensive Game Plan

  • Encourage power swings—even routine fly balls have HR potential.
  • Embrace the bunt game; tight turf and small field can cause havoc.
  • Run hard on contact—errors and overthrows often lead to extra bases.
