McNary High School

McNary High School is a part of the Central Valley Conference (CVC). The CVC is home to some of the most competitive high school baseball programs in Oregon. Known for its strong mix of athleticism, tradition, and community support, the CVC features four primary schools: West Salem, McNary, Sprague, and South Salem. Each field presents unique strategic challenges that require adaptable coaching and player awareness.

Field Location: 595 Chemawa Rd N, Keizer, OR 97303

Left Field 320 ft.

Right Field 332 ft.

Center Field 390 ft.

Backstop 49 ft.

Strategy: Pitching & Defense Focus

  • Emphasize fly ball outs with a deep outfield — pitchers should work up in the zone when ahead in counts.
  • Position outfielders deeper, especially in center and right, to prevent doubles and triples.
  • Teach pitchers to induce fly balls and keep the ball away from pull-side hitters.
  • Catchers must be alert and mobile with the deeper backstop — potential to throw out more runners on aggressive secondary leads.
  • Defensive communication is key due to the expanse of the outfield.

Offensive Game Plan

  • Be patient at the plate — the deep park requires stringing together hits.
  • Emphasize line drives, gap-to-gap hitting, and speed on the bases.
  • Left-handed hitters can aim for the right field corner; base runners should be prepared for aggressive reads.
  • Bunt for base hits when infielders are positioned deep.
